Time Schedule

1.Meet up at Otemon, guest will be given a Shinsengumi happi coat (Rental)

A number of exhibits are displayed in an easy to understand way, such as the Film Hall of Fame where you can find many artifacts left by those who contributed to the film industry, posters, movie equipment, and so on. There is also a special exhibition of “Hakujaden”, Panda and the Magic Serpent, the very first Japanese color animated feature film.
Guidance on demonstration of waraji, Japanese Candle experience, VR try out, and the Studio Park’s open set! You might get knowledge about filming of samurai movies from this tour! We will thoroughly guide you around the Studio Park so you can enjoy your free time after the tour.
“Sword Fight” is an essential component of SAMURAI. In cooperation with TOEI Kenkai and Keihanna Robotics Engineering Center, movements of a sword fight were motion captured and converted into an animation. Enjoy the animation first, and then get to be a real SAMURAI in the sword fight lecture!
Please fill in a questionnaire after the tour. Once it’s confirmed that the questionnaire is filled and a post is made on SNS, return the Shinsengumi happi coat, and you are all set!

Waraji production demonstration/experience workshop

Do you know “Zori” or “Wara Zori”, Japanese traditional footwear made of straw? It is a “Japanese Sandal” made of straw! On this special occasion, some of very few Zori craftsmen in Japan are called in to demonstrate and teach guests the production process of the Wara Zori. It is very entertaining even just to watch the demonstration!
Location: 1st floor of the Padios
Hours: 11:00 a.m.~/ 2:00 p.m.~ (Approximately 1 hour)
The first 10 guests in each session will be given their self- made Nuno Zori as a souvenir! (Same day applications)

Demonstration of Japanese Candle production process/Japanese Candle painting experience workshop

Japanese Candles are traditional candles made from fully biological materials, such as seeds of Haze tree (Japan wax tree), Japanese paper, rushes, and so on. On this special occasion, some of the very few Japanese Candle craftsmen in Japan are called in to demonstrate the production process of the candles and teach guests how to paint them! The candles are also available for purchase to all the guests. Please feel free to check out the Japanese candles that are used in many Japanese traditional scenes, such as temples, Kabuki and Geisha stages, Noh plays and so on. The candle is also ideal as a souvenir.

NINJA VR Experience

You can try out the NINJA VR KYOTO which won the Toei-prize in “Kyoto Digital Amusement Award” in 2019! Get to be a real ninja, and enjoy this thrilling and heart beating experience!

You can feel the history of samurai movies at the “Japanese Movie Archives”

A number of exhibits are displayed in an easy to understand way, such as the Film Hall of Fame where you can find many artifacts left by those who contributed to the film industry, posters, movie equipment, and so on. Akechi Mitsuhide/Hosokawa Garasha Mobile Museum

Have you ever heard of Akechi Mitsuhide and Hosokawa Garasha? The history of Akechi Mitsuhide, the supreme commander of the samurai army in the age of civil wars and the best symbol to better understand the Japanese concept of“Samurai”, and Hosokawa Garasha, Mitsuhide’s daughter and also known as a Christian, are concentrated into this mobile museum. This is a high-tech museum where you can wear an AR device and enjoy synchronizing it with your tablet terminal.

Hatamoto Taikutsu Otoko Project

The special exhibitions of Hatamoto Taikutsu Otoko, known as a hero in the golden age of samurai dramas, were held in Paris, Ginza, and Haneda Airport. His costume really is a masterpiece of yuzen dyeing process, and a very valuable one. The special exhibitions that created great sensation will be introduced, and the outcome will be reported.

3D animation of the movement of sword fighting and theatrical videos of combat performances will be played

“Sword Fight” is an essential component of SAMURAI. In cooperation with TOEI Kenkai and Keihanna Robotics Engineering Center, movements of a sword fight were motion captured and converted into an animation. Thanks to the 3D coordinates of the movements that were captured during shoot, it has become possible to precisely understand details of each movement, and it is expected to play an important role as a digital manual. Please check out the animation produced by the collaboration between the advanced technology and SAMURAI.
In addition, the Shingokugeki crew (a troupe that has created a realistic sword play different from the traditional Kabuki as well as many literary works and performances). This sword plays had a great influence among historical drama movies. A special projection of combat videos will be played.

Japanese Candle

Japanese candles are traditional candles made from fully biological materials, such as seeds of Haze tree (Japan wax tree), Japanese paper, rushes, and so on. On this special occasion, some of the very few Japanese Candle craftsmen in Japan are called in, and candles, including small and light candles that are ideal for your souvenir, will be available for purchase. A demonstration of the production process and a painting workshop will be held as well.
In addition to the attractions already mentioned, there will be many others, such as exhibitions and souvenirs in the Studio Park! You can view commentaries on the Open Set if you use the Studio Park’s Stroly map, have fun!

★Participants will be presented with a movie culture study aid!
In cooperation with Kyoto University, we created a study aid that explains the history and culture of Japanese movies in an easy to understand way. The study aid consists of illustrations created by a Tezuka-prize winning cartoonist, and anyone, from children to adults, can enjoy it. The study aid is ideal as a souvenir, or to be also used as material to learn about movies.
